Self-Improvement Month: Radiance

Self-Improvement month

Radiance

(taken from my book The All New, and Improved, You)

In the last three weeks we have looked at building a strong foundation consisting of Faith, Family & Friends and Finance for our self-improvement, looked at our Living Level consisting of Physical, Psychological and Personality Development, and at our Attic Level which stored our Accomplishment and Actualization steps.  This last week, we will look at the roof of The All New, & Improved, You.  It is the culmination of all the preceding steps, and is called Radiance.

Webster describes radiance as “something showing joy and well being, a beaming.”  It is an internal source of power and energy that radiates through sparkling eyes, a broad smile, and a lively step.  To me, the person who most epitomized radiance was Dr. Norman Vincent Peale.  You can’t help but be brightened by just listening to his stirring messages.  I’d like to share with you Dr. Peale’s  twelve specific steps to achieving this radiance through a Positive Mental Attitude.  His steps are CAPITALIZED, and are followed by my explanations. I have also added to some links to my blogs to further explain the steps.

1.  ORGANIZE YOUR PERSONALITY FORCES INTO ACTION.

Maintain an enthusiastic spirit at all times under all circumstances.

2.  TAKE A NEW LOOK AT THE WORD “IMPOSSIBLE.”

Change the word “impossible” to “I’m possible.”

3.  HOLD THE THOUGHT THAT NOTHING CAN GET YOU DOWN.

Let Go, and Let God.

4.  GET TURNED ON WITH SELF-REPEATING ENTHUSIASM.

Start each day with your very own Golden Hour.

5.  DROP OLD, TIRED, GLOOMY THOUGHTS, AND COME ALIVE.

Take charge of your negative thoughts, instead of letting them take charge of you.

See my blog:  http://bringinghopeandhappiness.com/why-i-make-myself-be-happy/

6.  YOU CAN DO WONDERS IF YOU KEEP TRYING.

If you want your life to be a radiant highway, then P.A.V.E. your way.

Prayer.  Actualize.  Visualize.   Energize.

7.  REACT CREATIVELY TO  UPSETTING SITUATIONS.

In tough situations, never panic; always rationalize it.

8.  YOU CAN COPE WITH ANYTHING; YOU REALLY CAN.

Take life and problems in your two hands, then put those two hands into God’s hand.

See my blog:  http://bringinghopeandhappiness.com/whos-the-boss/

9.  UTILIZE THE FABULOUS SECRET OF ENERGY AND VITALITY.

Visualize the life forces continuously at work with in you, refreshing body, mind and spirit.

10.  IN-DEPTH FAITH ALWAYS WINS OVER DIFFICULTY

The simple knowledge that there is a power greater than anyone or anything in this universe, makes no problem insurmountable.

11.  KEEP GOING STRONG WITH THE EXCITEMENT PRINCIPLE

Remember the acronym M.T.C.; Make Today Count.

And perhaps the most important step

12.  LET SEVEN MAGIC WORDS CHANGE YOUR LIFE: “I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST”

In a crisis, let those seven words take over.  They will carry you through anything.

I challenge you this week to find five ways you can improve your life in each of the following areas.

Achievement

Actualization

About Jerry Haynes

OK, where do I start. I was born…., no that line has already been taken.Call me…, oops so has that one. Well, I won’t attempt to spout musical prose, and just be myself. I grew up in the small cotton mill town of Fries, VA. My parents were hardworking members of the middle class. They never earned more than a little over minimum wage, but I can never remember lacking for anything. After graduating from Fries High School in 1969, I started to VA Tech. After two years of partying (1st), going to movies (2nd), and studying, well, much further down the list, VA Tech decided I need a two year break to get my priorities straight. With a number 8 in the draft lottery, I knew that even if the Hokies didn’t want me, Uncle Sam did. I joined the US Navy. I got my priorities straight. I’m proud to be a Viet Nam veteran, but feel guilty I never got deployed. I graduated from Tech in 1977 with a BS in Civil Engineering. For the next 35 years I would work in both the private and public sectors. My first job took me to Tazewell County, Virginia where I soon joined the Jaycees. This ignited my passion for individual development. This passion still burns today.
