Anne Frank said, “Where there’s hope, there’s life.”
I cannot comprehend how anyone would care to live without hope. When life’s storms rage around us, hope is the ever present life ring ready to be thrown to us. My hope comes in many ways. Certainly my faith is at the top of the list. I am a strong believer in the power of prayer. I believe in Letting Go, and Letting God. Non-believers might respond that prayer has no scientific basis, that it is merely a placebo. Well, what if that is all that it was. Even placebos have been shown to bring improvements to a person’s state of being.
How do I keep hope?
For one thing, I am a planner. If you don’t believe me, ask my wife. I plan everything. I spend more time planning our cruises, than the time we spend on the cruise. By planning, I have something to anticipate. It’s important to have something to look forward to.
I also strive to be an optimistic person. Hope will only take you so far. If you are an eternal pessimist, it’s hard to overcome your negativism sufficiently to accept hope.
I eliminate as much worry from my life as possible. I try to overcome worry by being pro-active in my planning. I use some of my engineering background by considering the best case-worse case scenario. Again, my faith comes in here, because when the worse case scenarios involve death, my faith gives me a great best case scenario from this. Also similar to this is doing a lot of pros versus cons list.
I work hard to reject despair and choose hope.
I try to surround myself with other hopeful people.
Please respond and let me know what gives you hope, and if there’s anything I can do to Bring you Hope.
